Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Søndag’s guitarist Marcello Lega.
Hey, how are you?
Fine thanks guys!
Thank you so much for the time you’re giving us!
Can you tell us something about the history of Søndag?
Before Søndag there was another band called Edema, in which me (Marcello), Marco and Riccardo used to play. Then, from that band we started a new project.
We suddenly felt the need of a new singer, so we called Ric.
We all love heavy stuff but this project was meant to be lighter than Edema.
We are an alternative rock band and starting back in 2014, we developed our sound by using three bass guitars in our songs: an actual bass, a Fender VI and an 8 guitar.
We have released 1 EP, 2 albums and 3 singles so far, and in the last years we toured a lot all around Europe.
For people not knowing Søndag (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
Søndag’s sound can be described as groovy and heavy: “low-tuned rock”.
As previously said, the most curious thing about our songs is that we use quite heavy tunings, in some riffs the guitars plays the same octave of the bass.
Above all, we always try to keep up the groovy riffs along with trippy atmospheres and catchy refrains!
When someone doesn’t know Søndag yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
I would definitely go with one of our recent releases: Trendsetter.
I think this song well represents our style from the beginning to the end: groovy riffs, low tuned guitars and a peculiar line of vocals which is definitely our “trademark”.
In addition to that, the main concept behind the lyrics perfectly match our opinion about the use of social media during this though times.. best “combo” ever 😊.
What makes Søndag unique?
Well, in my opinion there isn’t like a precise formula which makes something truly remarkable.
It’s all about finding the right mix of something that is really “authentic” (musically speaking) and the concept behind the band’s image.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
Sure thing, we are planning to release more singles from here to the middle of next year!
Any upcoming gigs for Søndag? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Unfortunately the current world situation have lead us to leave live shows behind for a while.
This is really sad, and there’s nothing we miss much like playing live around Europe.. but for now there’s literally nothing we can do about it.
We’d really love to come back in The Netherlands since we had reeeeeally a good time last time we came playing.. hopefully we will return as soon as this whole “thing” will be just a bad memory.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Definitely emptier and sadder 😊.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
Never loose the passion of playing music, even if things won’t work out as you expect them to be, because this is the fuel of a band!
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
Thanks to you guys!! We enjoyed a lot answering to your questions!

Marcello

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
