Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Subxero.
Hey, how are you?
I’m well thank you. How are you?
I’ve had better times, thanks for asking. Can you tell us something about the history of Subxero?
Subxero originally formed by Jason Xero with musicians in the Pittsburgh Pa area in 2016. He relocated back to Florida and put together a band of regional heavy hitters to form the current lineup. Subxero has released a full length in 2017 entitled Reborn. In 2018 Subxero released The Blood In, Blood Out EP. In November of 2019 Subxero released The Lighwork EP. Subxero is Jason Xero (vocals), Eric Schramm (bass), Josh Lough (drums/vocals), Daniel Knight (guitar) and Issam Pereira (guitar).
For people not knowing Subxero (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
Post metalcore with a hint of modernized nu-metal that is full of driving rhythms, thick tones, and epic hooks.
When someone doesn’t know Subxero yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
I can’t really pick just one. Lightwork, Monarch or Before I Break are my favorites.
What makes Subxero unique?
The same things that make every band unique, our life experiences. The things that have shaped and molded us into the people and musicians we are today. We’re just five regular guys that love making music together. It’s what you, the listener, finds in our music that makes us unique.
Let us tell something about the new video.
The song is about addiction, which is a very in depth subject. We had to be careful how far down the rabbit hole we wanted to go with it due to the small budget we had to work with. We self produced it. That was a lot of fun and a lot of work. Jason Xero-vocals did all of the editing. We’re very pleased with it.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
We’re writing material for the next release. Working on getting our music to the masses, usual band stuff.
Any upcoming gigs for Subxero? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Things are starting to open up a little bit on the local level here in the States. No gigs as of yet. We would love to come to The Netherlands. Hopefully next year.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Abysmally empty.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
Stay true to yourself, protect your music and your brand.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
