Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Pressure’s vocalist Olof Jönsson.
Hey, how are you?
Can you tell us something about the history of Pressure?
It all started years ago when Simon became Emil’s guitar teacher. They pretty fast found each other and started playing in a cover band together with different constellations and a lot of different gigs.
After a few years they got tired of playing covers and started rearranging and rewrite and translate the lyrics of a lot of known and popular rock/pop songs to spice things up.
By this time, they realised that they also wanted a lead singer and they found me, Olof.
When I joined the band we first worked with Simons and Emil’s rewritten covers. But pretty fast we wrote our first own song, and as soon we started walking that path there was no going back. No more covers. It has taken us about 1-1,5 years to find our sound. We play “story metal” and it’s a mix from many different genres. We use the heavy sound from metal and rock to tell different stories. We are really proud of our sound and will probably keep working and develop our sound as time goes on. We have been playing together for 2 years now.
For people not knowing Pressure (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
A heavy sound with a lot of guitar melodies and a lot of vocal harmonies.
We play “story metal”, we use metal and rock to help us express the feelings in our lyrics. Our sound is a mix of many different genres. If you take the vocals from Rammstein or Volbeat, the backing vocals from Queen or Aerosmith, mixed with the guitars of Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe, add the drums of DIO or Whitesnake, the lyrics of Skid Row or Bob Dylan, the bass of Metallica or Korn and finally add a little bit folk music into that mix.
When someone doesn’t know Pressure yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
Ha ha, that answer is different depending on how I feel the day I answer, but today my answer will be Komm Heir, an unreleased song that will be released when we release our album in end of April, beginning of May.
What makes Pressure unique?
We tell stories from real life and want to tell real stories. And definitely our sound.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
We are working on the final steps for releasing our first album. After that we will release a German EP that is almost fully recorded. We only have to do the translation for the last two songs, and then we will record the vocals for them. As we work on the two last translations for the German EP, we have also started to record our first drafts for our second album.
And between that we are rehearsing together. Why? Because we love it, and when Covid starts getting under control we want to get out there and do great live performances from day one. We are so longing to get out there.
Any upcoming gigs for Pressure? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Nothing planned because of Covid, but as soon as you send us an invitation, we are ready for you, and will pack our bags.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Similar to the sun burning out. Dark, cold, no joy and pretty soon I will die. Not literally, but my soul will.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
Believe in what you do, do it with love and don’t get too tempted to break though at any cost. If you loose track of what you are doing, you will probably start thinking it’s hard work. And it is hard work, but you will not feel that way if you love what you do.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
We are a really young band (not the members, we are old he he) that has just started our journey. We are working hard as many others right now and before us have done. We do what we do with passion and hope you feel that when you listen to our music.
We have released 5 singles last year, two of them with an English version and a Swedish version. This year we’ll release a few more singles, a full album and an EP in German.
You can listen to us at almost all streaming services. If you do like us, please don’t forget to subscribe. Especially to our YouTube channel, there will happen a lot of things in the future.
Put a smile on your faces. If you have a hard time, don’t give up, keep on fighting.
Have a great day everybody

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
