Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Heedless Elegance’s vocalist Samuel Konter.
Hey, how are you?
Well hello there, I’m fiiiiiiineeeeee (Ozzy Osbourne)
Okay, let’s be serious, I feel alright at the moment, I’m really happy that our new album Libra is finally out.
Can you tell us something about the history of Heedless Elegance?
The idea of creating a band came to our minds around 2015 I think, we were at a rock/metal festival in Hungary. Zsolt and I were totally sober and we said to ourselves “let’s try it one more time, but this time we’ll do it for real”. We had projects where we were playing together with Zsolt, but something was missing there, so we decided to follow a path where we’ll be very conscious about what we were going to do. Of course we were continuously bumped into problems and mistakes, but on a different level. Since the official start of the band, which was in 2018, we had quite a few band members on each instrument, cause there was always something that came up to the surface. Those things were on a scale from ‘problems with the attitude’ to ‘the person literally went insane’! But eventually in 2020 the final line up of the band was found and now I can proudly say that I’m in a band with amazing musicians and friends: Zsolt Forgó, Mátyás Erős, Dani Varga and Albert Csobán. Since then we got into the top 25 “Best Emerging Bands of Hungary” as the only metal music group by winning a showcase talent show in Herend and a major governmental showcase competition.
For people not knowing Heedless Elegance (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
It is a good question, as much as I know our music deeply now I would say it is that kind of music which hits you hard with its heaviness but at the same time could make you very emotional with its melodies. We are paying attention on making these two motives balanced in our music.
When someone doesn’t know Heedless Elegance yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
I think it would be the song called Split from our new album Libra, because I think both motives (heaviness and melodies) are perfectly balanced in an extremist manifestation in that track.
What makes Heedless Elegance unique?
Our goal was to overcome our boundaries and to step out of the frames of music genres. We made these songs to fulfill our expectations to ourselves. I hope the path we chose to go on and the attitude and humility we have could make a difference, so when someone is listening to our music will say “This is so HEEDLESS”, not just any other metalcore/deathcore stuff.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
With our new album Libra we hope that we will find new opportunities to show ourselves to the world, I really believe it will happen. Our plans are to play as many concerts in as many places to as many people as possible in the next years, and we will continuously work on to make our shows bigger, smellier, more colourful and more professional. We hope that the belief we have in our music and the attitude we are trying to follow will takes us to where we want to be.
Any upcoming gigs for Heedless Elegance? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Unfortunately because of the situation around the world and the serious provisions in Hungary we can’t play any concerts at the moment, we need to reschedule all of our gigs and we don’t know the exact dates. We hope that we’ll soon have the opportunity to have an EU tour, and if we will, we’ll definitely go to The Netherlands, I really love your country, I’m a recurrent visitor of Amsterdam and Eindhoven, in the last 3 years I’ve been there I think 6-7 times, it’s like a pilgrimage for me.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Absolutely boring! Now I can’t imagine my life without music, because I think it is connected to the deepest part of my bones now. Probably I would fall into a deep depression and self-pity, and I don’t know how I could climb out of it.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
I would say, if it really means a lot to you and you want to do this for real, than you need to be determined. It is very hard to prevail these days and you will bump into a lot of disappointments, mistakes and problems on a scale of everything to everything, but if you are determined and you truly believe in your music and the value of it, maybe you can overcome those things.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
I would like to say again that I really love your country, personally I will continuously go back there if I’ll have the chance and I hope that we’ll soon have the opportunity to play for you live with Heedless Elegance.
Thank you very much.

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
