Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Boozewa.
Hey, how are you?
I’m pretty good, not bad, I can’t complain (John Prine on my mind!)
Can you tell us something about the history of Boozewa?
BOOZEWA started as a result of the first lockdown of 2020. We were pretty much stuck inside the house for months and the three of us living together in a house FILLED with gear just turned into a band. It was pretty natural.
For people not knowing Boozewa (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
I guess I would say we are a heavy band with a lot of riffs. The band is still so new to us, it’s kind of settling into itself still. But heavy 90s influenced LOUD goes a long way to describe it.
When someone doesn’t know Boozewa yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
Full Tank from our demo First Contact is a pretty good example of what we do. It’s heavy, it’s a little off time, it’s a little chaotic.
What makes Boozewa unique?
I think the fact that it’s the three of us makes it unique. Take one person out of it, add one extra person to it, it changes the dynamic of the playing, the writing, everything. There’s something special about where the three of us are in life and the world right now that’s making this band what it is.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
We have a bunch of demos done both here at the compound on my old 4 track and in a couple friends studios. Not sure what is happening with them at the moment but I am sure we will at least have another ep out this year!
Any upcoming gigs for Boozewa? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Man I would love to bring BOOZEWA to The Netherlands. Our other band Backwoods Payback has toured through The Netherlands as well as the rest of Europe and I think this new band would go over great. It’s loose and fun and ROADBURN vibe ready!
How do you think your life would be without music?
I would not be alive. No joke, no exaggeration. Music has saved me more times than I can count. It is THE constant in every inch of my life.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
PLAY. Just play, keep playing. Play shitty shows, play great shows, play for fun, play for a mission. Remember that playing IS the point of this. No delusions of grandeur. Just. Play.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
Just keep moving everyone. Stay positive, stay alive. I hope we will see you across the pond soon! xoxo
Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
