Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Lure In’s vocalist Cameron Wilson.
Hey, how are you?
I’m doing very well thank you!
Can you tell us something about the history of Lure In?
We started off as a bedroom project created by myself (Cameron) & bassist Jonny, we wanted to make music since we were in highschool so we decided to finally do something about it. We wrote our first EP Derive in 2018 & from there James (guitarist), Jake (guitarist) & Sammy (drummer) joined the band so we could play live as well as have more people involved with the creative process. As soon as we became a proper 5 piece we worked on our debut album Subdued in 2020 & from there we just continued to create music throughout the pandemic to which we put out a two track release, as well as a split record.
For people not knowing Lure In (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
Our music is a love letter to our influences growing up in the metalcore scene listening to bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Converge & such, whilst implementing that with our current listening habits and modern production.
When someone doesn’t know Lure In yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
It would most likely be our newest song Blue, I’d say it’s the closest first view to what we’re about as a whole, incorporating the riffing of bands like Every Time I Die, whilst combining it with stuff like the modern PC Music scene, going far to incorporate a Sophie sample into the song, it sets the template of what we’re about & even though most of our catalogue doesn’t follow one specific style, that song gives you an idea of what to expect.
What makes Lure In unique?
We pride ourselves with 100% creative freedom, we are inspired by everything & we want to incorporate it with things that may haven’t been done before, be that incorporating a feeling of Tarantino film into an audible experience or mess around with different genres that might not traditionally go with metal as a whole so I’d say the uniqueness of this band is we are totally 100% down to try out and mess around with absolutely anything.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
So, we’re looking into starting work on our next full length, now lockdowns in the UK are coming to a point where we can all get into a room together. It makes the creative process a lot easier & I feel something special will come out of it, the one thing I can say is we are planning a run of shows, however it’s not 100% down yet but I’d say 80% sorted out for sure, so we’ll get to announcing it sooner rather then later.
Any upcoming gigs for Lure In? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
We’ve got 1 hometown show confirmed for November, but that’s the only confirmed gig so far. We’d love to come to The Netherlands however, we’ve always wanted to do a run in Europe just to sight see & soak in the experiences of being in different places, it’s always been the dream, the sad thing is now brexit has happened we’ll have to jump through a few hoops to get there, however one day, we would love to do it.
How do you think your life would be without music?
So, music has always been the fourth front of what I want to do but if that wasn’t the case I’ve always wanted to work in the video game industry, to the point I was in college to learn how to create games, as well as that I’ve always been intrigued by TV & film, be that acting, being behind the camera, or even editing, so it’d be one of those two sectors for sure.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
Have a DIY approach, learn how to record yourself, learn music production software, get your own gigs, put your music out yourself, do things that make your music uniquely yours, stand out & obviously if you enjoy what you are creating & you are super happy about it then other people will like it too.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
We’ve just put out a split record with our friends in Worm Hero, 6 songs from them, 4 songs from us, we’d appreciate it if you gave the record a spin & keep an eye out for what’s happening in the future.

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
