Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Darkest Horizon.
Hey, how are you?
Hey, I am fine, thank you! I hope you are well, too?
Can you tell us something about the history of Darkest Horizon?
Well, we were founded in 2010, released to this day 2 LPs, 2 EPs and several singles. We play shows
internationally, supported great bands, got on stage on amazing festivals and our new single will be
released next Friday (25th of June). That’s a very short history of our band 😉
For people not knowing Darkest Horizon (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
It is a mixture of metal and film music (mostly). We try to create a fictional world with its own
soundtrack and its own stories.
When someone doesn’t know Darkest Horizon yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself,
which song would that be?
This changes with time because we as people evolve ourselves. But at the moment this would be our
upcoming single (which will be released next Friday). It is our newest song and so the most up-to-date
version of what we write and how we are.
You can check out that new single, titled The Harbinger below.
What makes Darkest Horizon unique?
It is very hard to answer a question like this yourself, but I think, it is our way to create something
new in all components. So we are not just a band rocking some riffs and shouting, we write the
songs, we put a second layer to it with pictures (like a movie scene, not a bandshooting) and then we
combine this with every other form of art we can get our hands on.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
Yes, there will be more singles, we are currently working on some ideas for some videos and we are
preparing for upcoming live concerts (whenever that will be).
Any upcoming gigs for Darkest Horizon? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
Currently unfortunately not, due to the given situation. But I (and we as a band) love The Netherlands
so we would love to play some shows there as soon as possible! Two years ago we have been to The
Netherlands supporting Wintersun and it was just a blast. Totally amazing, great people, cool show.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Empty. Desperate. I don’t know what I would do all day. Writing? Maybe travelling and drinking? No,
music is so important in my life, I really don’t know what I would do without it.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
Try everything you can until you find you own style. And when you have it, work hard. And even
harder. You can achieve a lot of things only by working on it with discipline and a plan. On the other
hand it can be a pain in the ass if you have to deal with the same stuff over and over again just
because you don’t work efficiently. That just takes all the enthusiasm you had out of it and you don’t
get one step further.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
Thank you very much for reading this interview and if you like, what we do, just follow us and we will
give you more music, pictures… you name it! And hopefully we will meet soon on a concert close to
yours! We are waiting for it.

Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
