Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Trumbiten.
Hey, how are you?
Hi there! Really pretty good, thanks, and excited by the upcoming EP release.
Can you tell us something about the history of Trumbiten?
Sure! My son and I started to play together, 5 years ago, just for fun and without any further plans. We are both into the metal genre and we started to play and experiment with parts of classic heavy metal songs with cool drumbeats and cool guitar riffs, e.g. Metallica, Ghost etc.
I played the drums and mixed/mastered our tracks and my son took care of the guitar and bass tracks. Soon, we started to experiment and record covers and wanted to share our music with family and friends. The idea of starting a YouTube-channel came in 2018 and at the same time we agreed on the name “Trumbiten”. We started the YouTube-channel early 2019 and uploaded different of instrumental covers followed by our first cover on streaming media early 2020.
It was fun to play instrumental covers, but we wanted to develop our music further and also include vocals. So, one idea was to add female vocals to cool covers such as Ghost – He Is etc. So, I turned to SoundBetter and connected to different session musicians, which resulted in our first original song, with own lyrics, that was released September 2020, Fear Me.
And, now we are about to release our first original EP with three songs. This is really amazing and not on our minds only 2 years ago.
For people not knowing Trumbiten (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?
Our music is primarily within the metal/hardrock genre including melodic guitars, heavy bass and strong drumbeats. We have been compared to works from bands, such as In Flames, Soilwork and Amon Amarth.
When someone doesn’t know Trumbiten yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?
Fear Me, which is related and inspired us with the theme of the new EP.
What makes Trumbiten unique?
We are a metal duo, father and son, from the far north of Sweden dependent on new ways of working and advances in technology to collaborate and create music with professional musicians globally (that we never met face-to-face).
Our music deals with emotions and senses and tries to put words and music on different aspects of struggling with inner emotions, but also convey hope, belief in oneself and to find ways to cope with it.
Any future plans you can already tell us something about?
We have a second EP already in the pipe that we plan to release during the fall 2021.
Any upcoming gigs for Trumbiten? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?
That would be cool! Maybe some virtual gig that would be covid-safe 😊.
How do you think your life would be without music?
Boring…music brings energy all the way from an early idea to the final released song.
Also playing instruments and listen to music brings lots of joy, inspiration and energy.
What advice would you give to young and starting bands?
If you have a dream, go for it!!
Music, musicians, inspiration are just one “click” away.
Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
Keep rockin’!!
Hi!
I’m Tim van Velthuysen and I started DutchMetalManiac back in 2014. I’m 29 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Of course, I like metal, but I can also appreciate other musical styles.
In addition to DutchMetalManiac I also have a personal website on which I’ll post various things that won’t fit on DutchMetalManiac, but might be interesting for you as well. It’s in Dutch though.
